    Sauron's first home

Before he hit it big with the World Domination/Steal Your Soul Jewelery thing (Try on this Ring, you'll love it. I have ONE at home) and moved to New Zealand, Sauron lived in obscurity in a rural setting.

    Sauron's first home

Another image done before sunrise, again about 25 minutes before the sun cleared the horizon. I am only sorry I never realized previously how great this light is for these old structures. This barn is about ten km from the prior one I posted.

LOL . Very nice, Trevor; I didnt realize Sauron was Canadian! Waiting for the House of Hurin and his children now!

    Nice image!

Trevor, this is lovely. Would you mind sharing your settings?

This barn looks like it's about to flap its wings and take off!

By the way, I don't appreciate you talking about my friend Sauron that way. I can only assume that your own recent attempt at world domination failed and that you're actually very envious of him.

In the two barn settings, is the pink sky created by the sun behind or in front of you? I am guessing in front of you; otherwise, that coloration would appear only in the clouds and there don't seem to be any clouds.

Once Peter Jackson has made enough money out of Sauron I am sure you can have him back minus any jewelry.

Nice shot. Great time of day to take all sorts of photographs. Be really exciting if you could include a short video of a trail of footprints just mysteriously appearing in the snow as made by an invisible hobbit.

A collapsed small barn, only a few boards are protruding above the snow. Probably should clone it out.

Picky is good. Except when it makes me look bad

The sunrise will be almost directly behind me. The sun is illuminating some thin clouds. The effect of the blue transitioning to pink higher in the sky is, I suspect, the shadow of the Earth gradiating to predawn many miles north of me. Twilight gets progressively longer every day from now until summer solstice as we have less and less of the planet blocking the sun due to the curvature of the Earth. You can watch the glow of the predawn sun sliding along the horizon for quite some time and distance before the disc of the sun actually clears the horizon. Leads to this long period of almost day. I just never realized there was enough light to actually provide colour given enough time.

If I had wandered off the packed snowmobile track I was walking on I could have had a picture me mysteriously disappearing in the snow.
