    Olympus OM-D E-M5 Firmware Update

I know there are some other owners of this camera on this site so in case you haven't seen this already, the new firmware update adds a small focus point and a ISO Low (100 equivalent) setting. I also just saw that Focus Peaking is supposedly coming soon via another update. These are some welcome additions to a camera that I already enjoy a lot.

You can already get focus peaking with one of the art filters. There are 2 ways. One sets up one of the buttons to provide it when needed and the other just enables the art filter full time. That is only applied to the jpg which doesn't matter if developing from raw.. That way is shown on youtube. The other using the button can be found by searching focus peaking EM-5. One set of instructions doesn't point out that the settings have to be done with the camera is auto. Basically it's then saved as a myset and the myset associated with a button. When the camera is then used out of auto the button can be pressed and it will drop into that mode and leave it as soon as it's released. The youtube video shows how effective it is.

Also this with links and instructions. There is flair from an overhead florescent in the shot I posted but I reckon the focus is to within about 10mm from a distance of 2m using 75-300 at 75. Reading your rumors link looks to me like Olympus slipped it in because I can't see anyone wanting this particular filter.

The low ISO's on some cameras have been achieved by under exposing to loose out on dynamic range. I suspect it's the same here as the sensor is pretty good in low light levels.

I have calculated the 'ISO LOW', and it seems to be a real ISO160 over RAW data (i.e. 1/3EV below ISO200).

OLYMPUS E-M5 NEW FIRMWARE. IS 'ISO LOW' REAL?.

I wouldn't knock Olympus for this as there is likely to be more of the under expose method about eventually as the idea spreads. Numbers game. This might be a true 160. Hard to tell really unless the dynamic range is measured as well and even then noise could mask a true iso setting. I came across a stated low iso that was under exposure in a Dpreview but can't remember which camera is was. I recollect that it was a dearer one.

Interesting that Olympus may update the EM-5. They are not well known for adding features that are only in newer cameras even when they could. Sony have at times.
