    Twisted

Because I can't easily get out to shoot, I've been playing with some previously ignored shots to see what might be there.

For a change of pace I thought I'd take a page from Donald's book and do a square crop image. For this one I softened the background a bit to give the dead tree more interest.

There was a car on the road in the background but I cropped it out so that the blonde gal driving wouldn't be a distraction.

    Twisted

    C&C is always welcomed!

Try adding a slight vignette, the kind that you don't notice when it's there but you notice that it's missing if you remove it.

I wouldn't mind being distracted by a pretty blonde.

Cool looking old tree. Wonder how long it's been around? IMO a tight crop like this would work better with a cleaner BG. Then again the shots I've tried like this stink it up pretty bad so this is just another comment from the peanut gallery

Good idea Mike. I'll give that a try! Thanks.

Changing the background in this case wouldn't be possible without a complete cut and merge of the tree. I'm not sure if it would come out better or not but it would be a different image. I'll look through my shots from the Canyonlands area Dan, and see if I have another tree like this with a better background.

What's this?? "I wouldn't mind being distracted by a pretty blonde."; "Now where's the blonde".

I think I know what is missing from this cropping!

I love the soft colours and the texture in the tree, and how the tree leads your eye to the colours... Beautiful!

Perfect aspect ratio for a subject such as this.

So easy to get that one wrong with over-sharpening. I viewed it both at the 'in-post' size and also full sized in the lightroom. It's right on the money. Lovely image.

ps - What colour eyes did the girl have?

I would have believed it if you had said that you grabbed the girl, shaved off her hair and draped it on the tree for that effect.

Frank's shots always have something to learn from.

How in the world can you write that when he has already admitted to cropping to eliminate the pretty blonde?
