Safari with a Canon SX50 HS

I liked the photos taken by your son-in-law.
Please inform if the pictures are SOOC, JPEG with PP or RAW with PP? The photos were cropped, resized or sharpened?
With these informations I will have a better idea about the performance of SX50 HS.

I sharpened the images a bit and cropped them slightly. Not much more than I would do with any image out of my 7D along with an L lens. I have not seen the mass of images he shot so I don't know whether these images are unique in quality or if they represent the body of his work.

However, they do represent what quality can be achieved using the SX-50 HS camera. Whether or not he achieved this type of quality regularly, or if these shots were unique, really doesn't make any difference when judging the arrow rather than the Indian...

Well Richard, seeing your son-in-law's SX50 images got me excited again. Many folks have seen the images I've taken with the Canon SX40 HS (posted now in the SmugMug link in my signature line).

I just found a buyer for the '40 and have ordered the Canon SX50 HS to replace it. It will never take the place of my Nikon DSLR, but on vacation with only one camera in hand and no kit to carry about, the SX40 has treated me very well.

Based on what your son-in-law is capturing and given that the '50 does RAW and has 1,200mm FFE, I expect the images to be every bit as good as the ones from the '40 were. Thank you for posting!

I am thinking that a light weight monopod would be a handy gift for his trip.

He could use it to poke a sleeping lion, meanwhile having his camera ready to take a picture when the lion wakes up.
