    Riwaka River - Revisited

Today's humble offering to appease the gods of photography. As always Mr Phelps should you or any of your IMF team be ... oops - sorry - wrong dialog; As always, click on the image to see much bigger/better version (presented in easy-to-steal 1920 x 1080 & unwatermarked) (PS: Classic use of the Singh-Ray Vari-ND Filter)

No wonder the Hobbitt and Trilogy movies were filmed there. I love how the branches in the top right frame the scene. Well done!

Beautiful shot. I'm not usually a fan of the 'milky' water but it fits perfectly here.

Very soothing and relaxing capture Colin. It looks like you could doze off just listening to the water softly sing you to sleep!

Thanks Mike. Not sure if by "there" you were meaning New Zealand or that particular area, but ... some of it was LITERALLY shot in that very area (Takaka hill).

Personally though, I can't stand those darn movies (I walked out of the Hobbit 1/4 way through -- was bored out of my brains!).

    Thanks Kaye,

It always amazes me how changing the shutterspeed can completely change the appearance. Sometimes I'm down to 1/3 second - and sometimes up to 8 minutes (or longer) (this was 4 minutes off memory)

This is a nice image but I have a perverse prejudice against the silky/milky water effect. It would be interesting to see what it looks like with a fast shutter speed.

    re: Riwaka River - Revisited

    Hi Tony,

It's somewhat of a moot point because to get the effect you're talking about you need a shutter speed in the region of 1/3 of a second -- and there was no way that was possible at that time of day.

I've done those in the past, but for this location I don't think it would have improved it. I suspect it would just have de-emphasised it.

Might be a different story after heavy rain though - I might retry it then.
