    Forgottens

Some more forgottens from early Dec.

A friend had asked me to pick up a 2x TC but I was not going to pass up the chance to try it out on the 200-400.

    All taken at 400mm x 2.

    Comments/view appreciated as always.

    Thanks.

You seem to get the whites just right Bobo, whether they are against a light or a dark background. I really like the light coming through the wings on the last one!

Thanks Bruce. Glad you like them.

Thanks Frank. This river has a west to east orientation and I tend to go there more in the late afternoon. So basically one end is back lit and the other front lit. I will take 3 meter readings off the whites for the west, east and central area and just roll the shutter a bit faster or slower depending on which side the shot is being taken. The background and water is unimportant except for compositional purposes.

Just making sure it worked flawlessly , you were doing your friend a favour. Seems to work fine. Of course there may be some skill involved on the part of the photographer. A great set

I like all the birds with feathers beautifully shown, The background in the last is a touch too bright for me though.

Not sure I agree. The texture of the BG and the lighting overall in no. 1 is just lovely. The BG in the third shot is a bit on the bright side but the colour in the birds wings as a result is perfect. Three nice shots Bobo.

If I had the skill to get that last shot I would be tempted right after getting the shot to drop the exposure about 2 stops and grab an image of that exact same location without the bird. Then, in PP see if second shot would make for a better BG.

    Re: Forgottens

Thanks Pania, Sergio, John, Frank (again), Nandakumar.

I should have clarified about the background in that it is obviously important but not for exposure purposes particular when the target is white and just a tinge of overexposure can blow the highlights beyond recovery.

Regard #3 and the bright background - there are merits either way imho. I left it almost as is because darkening might have led to the impression that it was overly cooked and not natural given the lightness of the bird. Perhaps a deeper orange to highlight the sunset colour but I would tend to leave it there. Not important in any case since all it will occupy is some hard disk space.

    Re: Forgottens

What strikes me about the first two shots is the perfect white colour of the birds with a dark BG and I love the orange light in the wings of the third one.So the birds were goot at acting and the photographer was goot at shooting

Interesting set with the different lighting conditions but same basic subject in each. Love the dark BG on the second and the overall lighting on the third.
