    Colin,

This would be my typical adjustment using PSE8.

    Before the Dance
ACR adjustments for shadow/highlights, sharpening set at default, contrast-vibrance-clarity increase. Into PSE I would do a noise adjustment, sharpening and contrast using Noiseware plug-in. I stopped on this image at that point but I would normally do either a Levels adjustment or Curves adjustment, most likely a midtone curve adjustment and then follow with additional sharpening. I would have definitely done some spot healing and perhaps some dodging and burning, however I decided to see how it would turn out in Portrait Professional.

Generally any degree of clarity on portraits produces "a train wreck" - but in the case of the above, I think a straight desaturation would be all that's needed.

    Colin,

Thanks for the comments. With regard to sharpening, I have PSE8 set to the default (amt, radius detail- 25, 1, 25) in ACR, should this be reduced?

These are really nice John. I especially like the first image. Indeed one of my favourites of your images (beautiful). If it were my shot I would crop just a little on the left hand side, and print it.

    Christina,

Thanks for the comments and critique. I did an edit, cloning some of the lefthand extras.

    Hi John,

Sorry, I just saw your image and loved it and commented without reading the rest of the thread. The edit is beautiful.

I usually don't look at the photos in this part of the website.Today I have realised that I have to view them more often,it is good for learning.I like your images, coloured version of the first image is very nice too.Red lipstick, red ribbon on the head and read laces add something to the composition as the blue thing they are sitting on does..
