More broken glass: A large glass and a cordial glass

Yes, I did it again. I accidentally broke the cordial glass while I was cleaning it. It only cost one dollar, so I can't feel bad about it, especially considering that it gave me the opportunity to pair it with the large glass that was broken a long time ago.

I'm thinking there's a psychology at work here: Freud said there are no accidents. You may be unintentionally breaking these things just so you can photograph them
Of course, you could just be trying to get out of doing the dishes.

It's much simpler than that; I'm a total klutz. My wife refuses to let me wash our remaining large wine glasses because their stem is rather fragile.

That is coming from the person who very recently wrote to me that I have a fertile imagination.

I imagine that setting up the glasses in this precarious position must [have] been quite the challenge.

I have struggled with that in the past. It was surprisingly simple today and I have no idea why.

Another lovely image Mike! I have a quick question for you that I know was likely an artistic choice on your part but why did you let the rim on the back glass fade into your background rather that provide some additional separation? On my monitor I can barely make out the rim.

What browser are you using and is your monitor calibrated? I ask because the rim that you mentioned is difficult to see on my monitor in the small size but only because of the size. It's very obvious at either of the two larger sizes displayed in the Lytebox.

Regardless, this detail is a property of the glass rather than an artistic choice. The rim of the large glass is so thin that it provides very little direct reflection. In fact, I increased its visibility during post-processing in this image and in the image shot with a bright background that is displayed on the home page of my website. The rim in this image with the dark background might have been ever so slightly brighter if I had used a glass tabletop (because light from the bottom rear of the scene would have shined through the tabletop). I chose this opaque, non-reflective tabletop, which blocked the light coming from the rear and below, for two artistic reasons: to avoid the complex composition a reflection would have provided and to make use of tones in the tabletop that are different from the background.

I forgot to say that I think it is extraordinary that you captured the reflection of the side edge of the glass in the middle of the uppermost glass.

Amazing as usual. I very much like the lyrical convex/concave match-up. I sort of, somehow, miss a teensy pinch of fine shards sprayed somehow at the base of things but perhaps that would ruin it.

Sorry to disappoint you, Mark, but there were no shards. Tiny, tiny pieces that were so small that tweezers would have been required to pick them up, but no shards so to speak. Next time. There will be a next time, right?

The tiniest movement including motion in the air can move the large glass off its stem. When I realized that I had accidentally left it that way for a few hours, I was expecting to find the glass fallen from the tabletop onto the floor and broken into tiny pieces. Fortunately, it was still propped up on the stem. In these days of watching the Olympics, it's reasonable to let everyone know that length of time is my personal best.
