That's exactly why I like the monochrome version at least as much as the color version. I can easily imagine a series of monochrome versions of the exact same image though using various tints.

Try lowering the white point so it coincides with the far right side of the histogram. If anything gets blown, move the white point slightly to the right until nothing is blown.

    Re: Abstract Landscape (ICM)

Here is a revision where I used a levels adjustment to bring the white point down to 250. I also moved the midpoint to 1.03. The changes are subtle but I can see an overall increase in the brightness except for in the row of trees that I masked.

Do you see any pink tinged pixelation around the brightens tones in the sky? If I change the angle of viewing on my laptop monitor I see pixels but they disappear when I look at the image straight on...

Thanks again for taking the time to look and/or comment. It is appreciated

Here is the original again so you can easily toggle back and forth:

No pink tones in your revision on my system.

Notice the greater contrast and relatively darker tones in the monochrome version on the left side in the sky and land. That area keeps my eye from wandering. Another way of putting it is that the lack of those tones in the color version allows my eye to wander. Despite that both are very nice images, that difference is why I still prefer the monochrome version even after you have made this change to the color version.

Thanks Mike...I have darkened the tones on the left a bit and it is an improvement. I think that I will print both to see how they look in the real world. It is a small investment and is in line with one of my other goals for the year to learn how to print effectively.

Magnificent picture. I like the black and white most. The subtle grays in the sky give it a serene view, so don't crop the sky.

Thank you Henk! I picked up the prints last night and I am really pleased with the black & white version.
