    Pied Billed Grebes Fishing

I Recently went out and photographed some Pied Billed Grebes and for the first time was able to capture them fishing. It amazes me that they catch fish as big as their head, then down the whole thing. Now to photograph them sprinting on top of the water...

These were also shot with the new Tamron SP 150-600mm Di VC Lens. Previously I had been shooting with the Tamron SP 200-500mm Di lens; there is a huge difference between the two! And even though the new lens weighs over 4lbs It's not that bad hand holding.

Great series, Mavourneen. Nice and sharp. You can see that the fish is not particularly happy in 3 & 4, thrashing its tail around. You caught the action very well.

Nice! The only time I've been in a position to do that the Grebe zipped along behind some cattails and I couldn't get the struggle.

Great images. Local grebes swim around with their babies on their backs. Unfortunately, I have never been in a position to get a picture of that...

Super series Mavourmeen! I see these birds from my canoe at times but can never get close enough. Were you by chance wearing a Grebe suit?

Nice shots. You captured great action most of us hope to get a chance at. The first shot is best IMO due to the nice water surface and best view of the fish. The birds themselves are equally good in all shots so the other components differentiate them for me. One suggestion is to get as low to the surface of the water as possible. Since you're hand holding it should be simple. Just plop down on your bottom
