Mount Edith Cavell at sunrise:Jasper National Park

Minus 33C this Sunday. I was bit late to catch the alpen glow but only by a few seconds. Still I am glad I went out.

I don't care how you measure it, if its got a MINUS in front of it, it's cold!
    Lovely reward though

My right index finger doesn't think I am so lucky. I foolishly tried to carry my tripod (aluminium) with my bare hand and have a frostbite blister on the side as a result. Nothing that won't heal.

We had arranged to take our grandchildren skiing on Sunday and Monday. For some reason they declined. Maybe it was the threat of imminent death.

Great shot Trevor - I looks a lot different from the last time I saw it (that would have been around the middle of July, and the flowers on the mountain meadows were gorgeous).

I will have to go back in summer. I live 400 km from Jasper yet have never been in summer. But after last weekend i definitely will go back in winter. The snow and rock contrast works beautifully photographically.

Where were you when you took this? We spent a week in Banff last fall and took a drive up to Jasper. It was one of those days where it rotated between sunny, cloudy, rainy, foggy, and snowy every ten minutes. While we missed a lot there was still plenty of great scenery. Were you anywhere near Athabasca Falls for this one?

This was taken on the access road to Athabasca Falls, about 60 feet east of the bridge over the river.

The weather sounds like typical mountain weather. Factor in the elevation of the parks , the warming and cooling effects of the air moving up and down the mountain slopes and anything can happen and it changes rapidly.
