    Oceanside, CA Sunset and Pelican

Here are three shots from tonight at the Oceanside Pier here in San Diego. I've been trying to figure out how to best shoot the Pelicans as they are always available to model for me. The sunset was just a different perspective I chose to to get some palm trees in silhouette.

    All shot with Canon 70D + Canon 24-105mm f/4.0L

Processed in LR5 with the basic sliders and I added a bit of pink to the sunset pic. I welcome all critique good or bad, thanks!

    Aahh, that pier.

Spent a wonderful couple of days getting the train to and from Oceanside when I was over in San Diego in 2002 at a wedding. Is Ruby's diner still out at the end of the pier?

Excellent shots of the pelican. But that pier just brings back so many memories.

Nice images Javier, what is the pink spot left side of the pelican's neck in #1?,#3 i would try a small shift with the shadow slider to open them up a tad,but thats just a suggestion as it maybe my screen!

Yes it is still there! I know it's a great pier for photos but like everything else when you live ten minutes from it you get sick of it and I constantly find myself walking around with absolutely no idea how to shoot it anymore. I feel I have shot it so many times! It's a good exercise to get out of the box and think of new perspectives though.

Thank you David. Well, after closer inspection I think I found the spot you are looking at. I saw two tiny specs on the actual neck, they were white. Looks to be something within the plumage, I removed it. There is also a bubble like spot in the background next to the neck. Is that what you were referring too? I think its bokeh from a far away light so I kept it.

Regarding the pier. Are you suggesting that I bring out the shadows of the pier foreground? I wasn't sure if I should silhouette the entire pier or just the palms. I haven't done much silhouette technique before. I left some definition on the hand rails and so on to create some type of leading lines. What do you think?

Nice set Javier. If you want me to choose , it would be the second pelican shot. It's excellent.

Hi Javier, sorry I should have said background, but yes that's the one,I just felt it a tad distracting.
As for the pier, yes that's what I was suggesting,I.m.o. I think it would be nice to see a bit more of what looks like a super structure, only a suggestion thoughat the end of the day they are great captures, well done

All very nice... For me that first image of the pelican is absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful colour and detail on the pelican, beautifully framed and photographed.
