Bridge at Portimayo
Spotted this bridge over a couple of visits to Southern Portugal and managed a couple of shots last time we went. I knew what I wanted from the image but it wasn't until I converted it to mono that I saw what I wanted which was to emphasise the Aesthetics of the design. The mono conversion gave me the contrasting sky behind because I was able to darken the clear blue of the sky in PP. Had the sun been in a different position, a polariser might have given me the same effect in colour but this is one of those occasions when mono was best.

Re: Bridge at Portimayo
Works great in mono John!
I just wonder if it feels unbalanced? Heavy to the right?

Re: Bridge at Portimayo
Great b/w image. It does pull you to the right but that is ok because there is supposed to be more of it extending out from there.

I like Grahame's description. Powerful. I really like the starkness, dominance of the bridge. I also like your presentation of the picture in the frame too.

Re: Bridge at Portimayo
Thanks all so much for your comments.
Terry, sort of agree with you on the balance. I would ideally have liked to be a few yards to my left but I was stood on a dyke with water on either side and so it wasn't possible.

Re: Bridge at Portimayo
That is a very imposing subject, John, it really commands the viewer's attention. Would you consider removing the graffiti from the bottom of the stanchion on the right?

Re: Bridge at Portimayo
My word to describe this is "dramatic." Consider removing the cloud in the top left corner.

Re: Bridge at Portimayo
Thanks Bruce, Gregg, Binnur and Mike.
Greg, hadn't noticed the graffiti. Isn't that always the case?! Now removed from the original.
Colin, it's the small things that make a difference. Wasn't sure about the cloud but tried removing it and it is better for it.
Thanks again all.
