Truman the Yorkie

Truman is a five-year old Yorkshire Terrier whose owner dumped him at a shelter because he has become blind. However, the little guy cab function quite well without sight and he is very loving...

He has a degenerated retina which was inherited. Our vet eye doctor states that there is nothing that can be done. However, he is in no pain and can lead a normal life...

It is marvelous to see him when he enters a new room, he makes a circuit of the edges of the room, occasionally bumping into something. however, once done, he remembers the borders of the room and doesn't bump into that object gain. That's a heck of a lot better than a human could do but, a dog's primary senses are smell and hearing...





Many people consider their dogs as members of their family. Others consider them items to be disposed of when they are flawed. That is a great shame and people who think that way are losing out on a lot in life...

We have ordered goggles for him to wear outside so he doesn't brush his eyes into the roses or something equally as sharp...

I really like working independently like we do now and not having to answer to a breed club why we are rescuing non-pure bred Maltese. We still primarily rescue Maltese and Maltese-mix dogs but, when a fellow like Truman comes along, we can help him too

Truman has been adopted by a lady who owns a retirement home. He will live in her house with her but will go to work with her. Truman will act as a therapy dog to the residents of the home. This is a position for which his personality makes him eminently suited...
