    I've been watching your posts on this caterpillar with interest, Brian.

    I tried to ID this beauty but could not, as yet, match it up with any of the pictures I've seen on the web. Have you, by any chance, found out what this is?

    This is a very nice image.... this sluggishly creeping thing is called "blanket worm", locally. the serum oozing from its body creates severe itching...

    'Wavelength' suggests that his local name for this beast is 'blanket worm'. I looked it up and the Latin name is 'Lymantria dispar Linnaeus' The picture is not identical but it certainly seems to be in the extended family. If it is then it is part of the Gypsy Moth group.

    I looked it up Nandakumar and while the pictures aren't exact they do seem to be related... thanks.

    It seems to look similar to images I found of the Tussock Moth, a close relative of the Gypsy Moth. There are some close examples here from a search on "Philippines lymantriidae caterpillar": https://www.google.com/search?q=phil...w=1536&bih=904
