    Ramsey

I am still working at the proper shot of this Snowy Owl. I have made several trips to view this visitor from the Arctic. It has been very regular of late and has gained a bit of notoriety. It has been trapped and fitted with a radio transmitter and now has been christened as "Ramsey". I must admit that even though being tracked 24/7, it is pretty much always found on the same telephone pole being adored by the paparazzi.

I have done considerable editing of these images to remove telephone wires and junction boxes.

I actually had a much better opportunity last Friday but apparently nature photography works better if remember to bring the camera body.

Very nice capture Randy. Looks like he's keeping a watch on you as well! In the first one he looks like he is an extension of the telephone pole! Good job removing the wires and boxes. I wouldn't have noticed the repeating clone pattern if you hadn't mentioned it.

If you reshoot this same location, snap another copy of the pole a little further down and mask that part in from behind to avoid the repeating clone pattern.

Nice captures, Randy. I particularly like the 2nd one: it always amazes me when birds turn then heads 180 to look at you.

A beautiful bird to photograph Randy and nicely captured.
I often wonder, what must they make of us milling about on the ground pointing funny objects joined to our faces at them?

I suspect that in this case, the owl is wondering who is going to provide the next mouse

Great shots and great as a pair with the first being the' formal pose' and the second the 'messing about one' if you get my meaning

    Re: Ramsey

Thank you for your comments. I am waiting for the proper evening to revisit this site, I want to capture an image with sunset in the background and of course this time I will bring the tripod. This was an exercise in handholding, thus sacrifices were made (ISO 3200, f8, 1/1250sec). I am of a mind that due to the owl's relative immobility, I should get away with ISO 800 and a longer shutter speed.

Just for giggles here is the asooc of the first image

That is one of the fundamental differences in wildlife photography and bird watching

It's actually not accurate to characterize snowies as visitors from the arctic. They only visit the arctic during breeding season and spend a larger portion of the year below the arctic circle. Of course it's all theoretical and you have more first hand knowledge than myself since I've NEVER actually seen one in the wild.

That's a tough location to get a clean shot. But better than any of the locations where I haven't spotted them
