Re: Learning Landscapes - Mountain Views (truly)
Following is my post-processing edit in which I followed the guidelines of Allan to the best of my ability. I couldn't figure out how to use the gradients so instead I used the curves tool, selectively to darken the clouds and lighten the trees.
I prefer Allan's edit to my edit, by far. However, since I said I would give it a try and post the result here it is. I don't care for my edit because it is too dark and also because it doesn't fit the scene or the colours of the scene as I saw and envisioned it - a fantasy of the the image in the center of image 3.
I also worked on an image 3 and I did a better job of bringing out the colours in the sky and clouds, following Allan's guidelines but I've decided that this image is not a keeper simply because I didn't capture the beauty of the scene as I saw it.
The Edit
Even though I didn't manage a decent edit, I learned that all these images are high contrast scenes.. Very evident by the double mountain histogram (with a large gap in between, and near true black and white points) as soon as I reset the image in Lightroom.
Mike... Yes I was thinking of the light at the time when I was thinking of contrast. I've read your reply a few times as well as that section in the book and I feel like I have a far better understanding of contrast and all the variables that come into play.
Allan... Although I was not able to come through with the post processing of this image I want you to know that I learned a lot from your post processing suggestions which will help me in future.
Thank you.
