    Android photo viewer?

I use my Android tablet to show my photos around. I would like an app that allows me to arrange the photos in the order I want them to appear (not in some pre-arranged order like date or time), ideally by simply dragging thumbnails around. Anybody know of one?

    Ta,

    Dave

Dave I wish I can be of help but I can't...at the time of this writing my eldest son is developing one for Android users and I have no idea when he will finish it yet. I'd be interested in the thoughts of others too...

It looks fine and useable app for arranging the images as per our needs. Thanks @paldon as I'm also looking for the same.

    Hi,

Thanks for the link. However, when I read the reviews it sounded as if performance would be a real issue. I have decided to go down the slightly less flexible route of sorting on my desktop, then re-naming, and then copying to the tablet. The freeware FastStone Viewer does exactly what I want.

    Cheers,

    Dave

    Hi Dave,

This review may be worth a read (as I am now)

    http://www.talkandroid.com/guides/be...-october-2013/

I could do with one of these too, so I'll let people know here which I go with, and the pros and cons, in due course.

    UPDATE:
Hmmm, none say they allow you to view the slideshow in a desired order - other than (I assume) the defaults of say, image name or date/time taken, as said above. In a review of one app (QuickPic), it says you can "sort", whatever that means.

Bit of a gap in the market there I would suggest.

Let's hope Isabel's son comes up with something.
I almost fancy a go myself - although if it were easy, I'm sure someone would have done it by now - being a web coder myself, I can see there might be a few design challenges and possibly OS limitations (I'm not familiar with Android beyond being a user of just 2 months).

I can see that the file renaming option, for files on the device itself, is attractive - it might only take the addition of a prefix of 001_, 002_, etc. to do that. But it is a bit limited!

    Getting a bit technical ...
In an ideal world, no matter where the files are hosted, you really want a playlist (xml/text file) to be used to display them in your order - this would have the url of where they are stored, so you could intermingle shots hosted on FB, in Dropbox, in Camera folder, etc.

Then (but chronologically first in actual use), you'd want to be able to build that list by either drag and drop re-ordering* (of shots in one folder), or by having a menu option to "add to ordered slideshow" when viewing a picture anywhere.

    * as you do when placing app icons on your Android desktop

Of course, you'd also want to be able to have more than one ordered slideshow list.

Gilding the lily; it would ideally pre-load the next shot to avoid 'buffer-wheels', so you could cut quickly to the next shot, or transition nicely - talking of which, throw in a few options of fades, wipes, etc.

But it needs developing in the order I outline above, or it could be a bit pointless (if the OS cannot read an xml/text file as a playlist - get the basics working first, then break out the gold leaf

My thinking is that most of what I propose already exists for audio files (music) - on one platform or another, so why not for pictures? (which is also why I can't believe someone hasn't already done it)

In the words of JC on Top Gear; "how hard can it be?"

    Cheers,

    Hi Dave, or anyone interested,

I tried the route I suggested above. The workflow is rather clunky, but for my limited needs I can live with it.

    Basically, I:

Used Lightroom to Develop the images, then put the ones I wanted into a Collection and Exported them to a network device.

Used FastStone to sort the images into the order I wanted (very nice slick interface, I thought)

Used FastStone to rename the images, retaining the order that I had sorted them into, as described

    http://www.imagingtips.com/faststone...0sorting.shtml

Copied the images onto my tablet, and used an image browser to display them in file name order.

Not slick, as I said, but good enough for me to be able to take my holiday pics to show my mum this afternoon.

Dave thanks for that info. I didn't know you could do that in FS viewer but it could be useful. It's actually a pretty handy piece of software.

I use Pixie Reef for my Barnes and Noble Nook, which has android capabilities. It's quite a nice viewer that can be customized in many ways... It was also quite inexpensive... If I remember correctly, it was about the price of a Starbucks Cappuccino Grande
