Re: Flys again!!!
Claudio...the pink background in the first one is very distracting to my eyes...I have to look twice...tone it down a bit???

Re: Flys again!!!
Really nice... the shallow depth of field affords a perception of depth, and defies the helpfulness of stacking - even if it were possible.

Re: Flys again!!!
I love the 2nd image for the focus on the head and the background and bokeh... Gorgeous. I like the pink colour in the 1st image but prefer the 1st image for the beautiful background.

Re: Flys again!!!
Thank you all for your comments!! Izzie..I must agree..I felt the pink is to sharp..so I tried toning it down..and when I opened it..I reaally didn't like it toned down.
Thanks Graham..of course I'll put a few images up later this evening..just at work at the moment...you won't believe it when u see it anyway..its all home made. I think I had an image of it some time ago on another thread but not sure where.
Look I won't lie..its not small.. But it does block out the light so the flash is what's doing the work of lighting everything up..but I really feel more comfortable using flash ratjer than natural light...and a plus is my images are alllooot sharper where I want it. Will post images later this evening in this post

Re: Flys again!!!
Great images indeed; yes a bit tone down on the deep colors is experimentable; but i like both of them even without that

Re: Flys again!!!
Thanks Nandakumar, yeh, i tried it out, but it takes away a little from it. Binnur the fly is going at a piece of watermelon, i wanted the red below with the green from a leaf at the top.
Thanks Mark, i must say, im enjoying having the head in focus and rest of body OOF, its just my preferred type of macro at the moment, who knows, the more i do it the more things i"ll try
Grahame, here are some images of my flash diffuser.. im very happy with results. Its just a type of plastic board with little foam in it, it can be bent with a ruler and works fine. I've used tracing paper in front, depending on what effect u want u can put more..i just use one sheet. This also works reasonably well for portraits as fill in flash, not as harsh.
2 Issues, firstly i struggle off camera because of size and i have a Nikon D5100, so i need to use foil to block out flash on camera and direct towards my speedlight as i dont have commander mode on D5100. Secondly, if i use all 3 of my extension tubes with macro lens i find it stitting a bit to far back. Works fine with macro lens and 20mm tube..but all 3 is just a little to far.
PS. please dont judge me on these photos, i use an older blackberry and took em quick tonight
Hope this helps, If ya need to see it against an example lemme know..but the angle sits perfectly to the tip of my lens

BTW , all the tape is just because im testing the tracing paper... but so far im happiest with it.

Re: Flys again!!!
Hi Claudio,
Thanks for the PM and posting the pics, I now recall seeing it before. Basically it's almost identical to the one I'm using so this now jogs me to mod mine to enable different materials for diffusion to be changed easily and run some controlled trials.
It's not that I have been unhappy with mine and I also find it better in most cases than using the two SBR200s but your last two posts have demonstrated that your's is giving such good results. Perhaps it is simply that tracing paper that I have not tried yet is the solution.
The Commander mode on the D300 is a real bonus when using off camera flashes.
Here's the pic of mine again and from what I see angles and positions are the same.
