Some time you have to wonder about people, when they dress their pets up. However it was a virtual heat wave today at about 40 F (8 C), it's been usually cold for us this year. Aside from the hair cuts (which are not unusual for poodles) and the dye, I think the dogs enjoyed the blankets and shirts because they kept them warm. I know Danes are not especially made for cold weather.

All in all, for the hundreds of dogs present, they were very well behaved. It was great to see so many breeds. The personality/characteristic differences were fascinating. The designer breeds were present also and I met my first Irish-Doodle (Irish setter/Poodle mix). He was amazingly smart with a curly auburn coat and an beautiful gate.

I don't mind dressing up dogs at all. In fact, it can be kind of fun and it certainly doesn't bother the dogs (except my goldendoodle will not keep a hat on!)

Dig you get a shot of the Irish Doodle? Being a doodle owner, I am always interested in different flavors of doodlemania...

I did a Google search regarding Irish Doodles. They are certainly good looking dogs. It is amazing how strong the poodle genes must be, since many doodle-type dogs resemble each other remarkably despite the differences in the secondary breed.

Another strong gene is in the Chihuahua. Allie is half Maltese and half Chihuahua but, you would never guess that she isn't a full Chihuahua...



We know she was half Maltese because she was born in our house from a rescue Maltese whom we received while pregnant.

Of course people have been mixing poodles with other breeds for years before the term "doodle" was coined. As example the Maltipoo (Maltese + Poodle) and Cockapoo (Cocker Spaniel + Poodle).

However, I think "doodle" is a better name in many cases. I would hate to tell people that I had a big golden poo at home.

I did, but wasn't very satisfied. I should have shot some video so that you could see him move. I would agree that certain traits prevail -- no shedding, hypoallergenic, etc. And to see him walk was amazing, it was almost like a Lipizzaner Stallion type prance.

The Irish Setter is a very graceful dog and so is the Poodle, so I imagine that the combination would produce quite a graceful animal. The Irish Doodle, looks a lot like my Goldendoodle, Holly. Holly was a reddish color as a pup but, that has faded to her present buff color.



Holly, with her long Poodle-like legs is also a graceful dog. I love to see her move.

She also is extremely intelligent, sheds minimally (we find a tuff of hair around every so often) and has no undercoat. She is friendly but, protective. In fact, she is a pretty perfect dog...

She is fantastic with our rescue Maltese and their puppies...

They do look a lot alike. In fact I asked if he was a golden doodle but was corrected. He was about the same size as Holly, just auburn in color.

This one appeared to have a lot of puppy still, squatting and taunting other dogs while wagging his tail so hard his body shook. It was fun to watch how much he would use his front paws. All until a rather large Great Dane walked up and the Irish Doodle seemed rather confused, almost like he had never seen a dog bigger than himself.

Good times and most all the dogs seemed to enjoy meeting new friends. So much so that humans were just an annoying obstacle to walk around ;-)
