I reshot but it didn't come out quite like the first single barrel!
I had noticed some firearms postings so I thought I'd add one to the mix!
I'm just happy I didn't shoot myself in the dang foot!
I'll break it down...
I hung it from a boom arm against a black backdrop with some sail thread I had. Removed the thread in post. Lit it with three lights. One through a feathered horizontal strip box on the broadside (C-right) and behind to bring on the texture. One through another feathered strip box C-left and in in front to light the end of the barrel, front of the grip, front of the trigger guard, the trigger, and bring on the texture. The third was a hard rim light with grid and barn doors perpendicular to the backside of the semi-auto. That produced the highlights on the grip, trigger, trigger guard, and under the barrel but I may have needed it a bit higher to try for a highlight on the backside of the front and rear sights.
The pistol is black on a black BG (kind of a challenge in itself) so I converted it to mono. Added a hint of blue to the highlights and shadows trying for a "finished" look. Added a bit of "light" to the Glock logo on the grip among other things!
I now see that I may have lost a bit of the bottom of the magazine to the background. I can go back and dodge that in enough to solve that issue which I will do. But I'll post it anyway to illustrate my total incompetence!
This is definitely a low key image. Too much nuke and the pistol starts to take on a sliver look. Cool but unrealistic. So the problem is how to light/shoot the black subject against a black BG. I chose a low key solution with strategic highlighting to help define the shape. I am typically wrong so please feel free to tell me how it should be done!
Shot at 1/125, ISO 320, f/20, 120mm just to see if I could!
