Geotagging device.

Hi All,
I use Nikon D5000 which is geotagging enabled camera.
Gotta plan to buy the geotagging device, but I travel sometimes.
Is it supported in other continents than US,Europe, sorry but I am not kind of Tech savvy guy.
Please reply.

If you have a look at the tech Specs it tells you that the unit uses satelite GPS, so it should work anywhere. It also tells how to link your embedded information to a map.

Be sure to specify tht it is for a D5000 as the GPS unit was originally brought out for the D90 and comes with the cable for a D90, unless they have made changes for the later models.

If you don't want to go to the expense of buying a camera mounted device you can getoag by hand using Picasa (www.picasa.com) and Google Earth. You need to be able to remember where you took the photos but this is not too difficult provided you make a few field notes. Alternative you can buy a little GPS unit called i-GotU over the internet for $US50. It is about as big as a matchbox and you can wear it around your neck. It comes with its own geotagging software but I find that a simpler solution is to download the gpx file and geotag with a some freeware that you can get from www.geosetter.de. Geosetter is particularly useful and you can use it with any GPS device that creates a gpx file, even a vehicle mounted GPS will do. The only trick is to make sure your camera and GPS are set to the same time.
