    Product Shot..thanks Mike

Please note..this is in no way my type of genre, a friend asked for an image or 2 of some product he has, this is nothing special , i was just trying to get the basics right. I created my own diy light tent, and then just cleaned up one or two little spots on the product after. i Used my macro lens as i didnt want to crop in, these things are not very big and clients need to understand what its about.

I also sharpened the image a touch more.

The second one of the lipstick i only Cropped. You will find spots..as i say on the lipstick it was just a try to see more of how the lighting worked. I actually used my flash outside the tent on both images

Lemme know if im doing this right and how i can improve please..even though this is just the basics.

#1 This is just one of 5, of which the other 4 is each object on its own in a different angle.

Good ones; I think you may please try black background; you may please try the lipstick laying on the floor; somehow i did not like its erect stance; even in the first i would prefer an organized disorder than military discipline

    Regards

Thanks Nandakumar, i"ll definitely give the lipstick a go. As for the military stance, unfortunately this is what the gentlemen is looking for.

As far as the lighting goes? are you happy with that?

There are no disturbing shadows; the first one is top lit and the latter from left,no? In the second the lid must be facing the light source i feel; but i am also waiting to hear from experts on lighting

    Claudio,

Look up Avedon lighting also, it would fit in perfectly with the background you chose for these items. Nicely done.

I'm confident your friend will be very happy, Claudio. Well done!

You mentioned in the other thread that each subject is the size of a marble. Is that really true? Perhaps your marbles are larger than mine.

Did you end up using a milk bottle? What did you use for the tabletop?

I see that you decided upon the macro lens. Shooting at f/16 kept everything nicely in focus.

I also see that you used a Nikon D5100 and flash. The shadows suggest that you fired the flash off-camera. What model flash did you use?

Claudio your shots look pretty good.

If I may offer a couple of suggestions sir? And if so I want you to know that these are just opinions! So they are to be taken with the grain!

On your first shot for your friend?

You might try shooting from a lower (or different) camera angle. Slightly below instead of above. See how that makes them look. This will have a tendency to make them appear “larger than life” and something that will add “pizzaz” to your friends product.

I know you are limited by what the “Client” wants. And that is that. But in this shot if you could have moved the objects such that they didn’t “touch” each other and had some separation from each other it might have been better to display his product. Mostly the first two in line. This intersection is called a “tangent” and might not be a desirable composition in this case.

I have no idea what these are, and it really doesn’t matter. But there is some lettering on top of the first one in line that doesn’t show well. I can’t tell what it is but I can tell it is there. If it can be seen and is there it should show well. It is important because it is a part of the subject. And if it is something that identifies the manufacturer (your friend) then it is very important.

In the second object in line if you could get a tad more light into the center instead of leaving it in shadow then how would that be? You might be able to do it in camera by reflecting some light to that area or maybe easier in post.

If you could shoot with enough Depth of Field to arrange these in a diagonal instead of straight across might be more compelling. Be worth pursuing since it would only take a minute or two and who knows that your friend might like it better? Maybe not but what I have found is that if you are shooting for someone else then offering them some choices is always a good thing!

    The lipstick?

The lighting looks okay as a test for the “real deal”. But if you were going to shoot this on it’s own it is an absolute must to clean the subject. Period. There is residue on the cap, base thereof, where the cap seats into the stick, and all of that should be clear and clean. I know you said it’s a test shot and cool. But cleaning the product is a biggie!

There seems to be a crease or something in your background above the cap. Easily dealt with in post and no big deal as long as its gone with your final.

They may do well with a bit more sharpening and possibly some contrast enhancement.

Good stuff Claudio and your I hope your friend appreciates that you went to the trouble to not only shoot for him but also be so conscientious about it that you went to the trouble to seek feedback and advice about shooting for him!

    That speaks volumes man!

Though I agree with everything Terry mentioned in response to your request for ideas to make improvements, I'm keeping in mind that I know from the other thread that this is your first attempt and that you had minimal time to make it happen. In that context, I think you did very well.

About the three yellow subjects: If you have time, try turning all of them more on a 45-degree angle to the camera. An easy way to make the lettering stand out is to select that area and increase the contrast with a slider or using a fairly aggressive S-curve.

Hi Mike, the objects are about a cm squared in size. I got in close as my friend needed the clients to understand what the pink rubber parts are about. I have no clue what these things are but will find out. I used .sb 910 flash on manual. Held it above . I built the light tent on the YouTube thread u saw. Took me bout half hour to build. Thank you for your help. I have printed both yours and terys advice so next time i can take another step in improvement.

And i was wondering how to get that writing out a little more. What's worse is I've followed your posts and you recommend that technique quite a few times which I've applied to my insect macros. Doh , I'm so daft at times. Thanks Mike.

Terry your advice is spot on and please, all the info you give is truly appreciated so go mad really. I've printed out your recommendations and hopefully I'll have a little more to do in this genre because i really quite enjoyed it. I was in my own little world for a while. Even though it is just a basic set up. But that's why i take all advice thankfully. Baby steps
