    Procrastinating

Matt started an interesting thread here - Do you ever procrastinate on editing an image you like?

My reply to that thread is partly reproduced below.

    ---
Yes, everything about not doing anything that everybody who does not do anything, I do.

Usually it would be an image that is good to go as-is but for some reason I think it must need something but do not know what. So it just sits there.

Here is one that I have been sitting on. RAW conversion only, no NR, sharpening or other edits.

    Procrastinating

    Questions I have asked -
Should the top dark bits go?
Should the snow be made more apparent?
Would a tighter crop show him off better?
Should it be cropped at all?
Should that dark part under the beak be lightened up a bit?

So far I have not managed to find any answer that suits me. The easiest would be a portrait ie tight crop but then losing all the environment.
    ---

John (shadowman) then stepped in said I should just get on with it.

Well since it was almost done anyway, it might as well get finished.

Here is the finished image. Cropped out the dark bush at the top, brought out the snow a bit, canvas extended for slightly more space at the bottom, cropped.

Comments, views, suggestions, stones, whatever, ... appreciated as always.

    Thanks.

Looks good, I would have cropped the same way. Just enough tonal change in the snow to make the background interesting without distracting.

    Nicely done.

    Thanks John.

If anyone finds problems with this, blame John - he made me do it! I was procrastinating so would have been safe.

I liked number 1 then I saw the second one and changed my mind. I feel the second one has added more
life to the bird.....if that makes sense.

Yes; the first image has a blue cast...and what seen at the top helps just to distract and nothing else; so well done edit

Try it sometime, quite addictive and good for the brain. The number of excuses one can come up with is amazing.

Nice job of processing an awesome image. IMO you didn't need the additional space on bottom. A bit off bottom and right side and print it!

Thanks for the suggestion Dan. Won't that make him sit in a corner?

Web browsing is the biggest culprit, especially if Youtube is involved. One search can lead to hours of enjoyment.
