    Revisited Image

Some discussion in Matt's post on Procrastination about revisiting images after time has past. Here's a case in point for me. I posted the first image some time ago and it well received I guess but there seemed to be something lacking. I think I described it as old hat but it was also perhaps a bit basic (if that's the right word?). I've recently reprocessed it and I think I am happier with the result but comments would be both useful and welcome.

    This was the original image:

but I ended up with this as perhaps a more interesting way of isolating the subject from the BG:

I like the first version because the reds leading the eyes are more subtle. In the second image the red door is more dominant and the red bus too close to the figure, if the red were placed a bit higher it might work.

I think that they both work, but find that the post-processing is a bit too heavy handed in both examples. If I had to choose, I would have to go with Binnur and John's view that the first example is the stronger image.

I wonder if something a bit more "middle of the road", i.e. desaturate the background just a touch and leave the reds with a bit more pop might not be something that works even better.

    Re: Revisited Image

    I actually favour # 2.
But keep in mind, I dislike "selective colouring", so this might cloud my judgement just a tad!
I believe the red in the t-shirt and the door on #2 should be toned down just a bit.

I like the contrast and texture of the buildings and the pavement in your second edition. Perhaps make one like the first version, but by converting the second to mono plus red?

I love #1...it creates the isolation needed and intended for the shot.

    Thanks for the feedback all.

Tried your suggestion Manfred. I don't dislike it but I'm not sure if I prefer it - see below.

John, I agree about the bus. Can't really move it but I have changed the colour. Quite like that.

I still prefer #1, John. 'Must be my tired old reason that if it works, don't fix it thinking...

    Re: Revisited Image

The first shot works well because of the row of bollards and the red shirt and post barrow, lead the eye to the red near the door (a postbox?) and it works well.

I dislike the heavy tone mapping/colouration effects of the other shots. It creates a falseness reminiscent of the books 'Beauty in Decay I & II'.

The bus fails to work in any of the shots and I just cannot fathom what has gone wrong with it?......Get them to repaint it before you take the shot again!!

Thanks Isabel. Thanks Ian. Ian, the treatment is a bit of a marmite approach. I occasionally enjoy a play and I guess that sometime it hits the mark and sometimes not.
