    Gitzo Tripod Question

I currently use a Gitzo G1348 tripod that I bought for my view camera work. I mainly use it now with my Canon 5D. I am looking for a carbon fiber tripod that will fit into a 22" carry on bag for flying. Gitzo use to make the G1228 that folded down to 21" and had a 16lb. camera weight capacity. Does anyone know of a quality tripod that would fit in a carry on bag? Thanks, John

The GT2542T is a gitzo tripod that folds down to 43 cm, 17 inches.

But you will need to take out a second mortgage to buy it. I'm lusting after this tripod. Trying hard to convince myself that I "need" it and that my photography will improve substantially if I have one.

3-Legged Thing's travel range includes several models which meet your requirements. Second mortgage not required.

    Re: Gitzo Tripod Question

You are assuming, of course, they they will allow a tripod in your hand luggage. I had to check mine once (I was told it could be used to hit someone, so I couldn't take it into the cabin, after having flown with one many times), so now I don't bother with it in my hand luggage.

I got GT2541 which I found it very reliable, even with the central column extended.
also remember not only count the tripod fold down length, how about the ball head. My Manfrotto ball head added another 3-4 inches!

I use three legged thing. Comes in a case. Never had a problem with airlines with carry on if I wish, but with case is safe in the hold anyway. Carbon, Well made. Sensible prices.

The GT2541 replaced the 1228, can carry 12Kg, folds to 22” and weights 1.36Kg. If it is within your budget ($740), why not?

Umm. That's a video tripod, and only has a single extension. It will be large, long, heavy and totally unsuited for still photography (and will certainly not fit in anyone's carry on luggage).

At that price, I would probably run from it. I have an inexpensive fluid head and it cost me more that whole kit; I wouldn't touch that with a 10-foot pole.

Actually Allan, Feisol is from Taiwan, not the USA.
