Finding Old Pictures

I'm culling through my old pictures to whittle down my Lightroom catalog. It's taking forever, but it's really cool to see my improvement over the last year and a half.

Anyway, here's a photo I found.

That is an interesting exercise to go through. Where do you see the most improvement in your work? Technical aspects? Composition? Use of lighting?

I love going back to old images and re-editing them with new software (NIK and Perfect Photo Suite) and with newly learned techniques.

That is just one great reason why I always shoot RAW. The RAW images are non-destructive...

Dan: I notice it most in my basketball photos and the use of lighting. I'm still getting there as far as lighting is concerned. That and learning not to over-shoot. I knew I was bad for it with sports, but in hindsight I was overshooting at events, too.

Richard: I wholeheartedly agree. I noticed a few images from before I started using lightroom. I of course edit my photos differently than before as well. Not to mention the use of a colour calibrator.

I am also now set in the belief that better equipment DOES make a difference. Maybe not in normal circumstances, but I do a TON of low light stuff. I love my 300s to bits, but I can't make any decent sized prints out of things like my basketball pictures. That and my slow focusing lens (the first iteration of the 80-200 2.8). I can get some passable stuff, but a 70-200 2.8 would be excellent.
