Nice, really stands out against the dark foliage. Could use a bit toning down on the highlights.

Yes that was my thoughts as well. Just the top right corner which needs a little attention though. I wouldn't want to darken the petals by the same amount.

Agree with what has already been said Brian plus I would try to eliminate the odd petal in the bottom left hand corner or at least tone it right down.

As I said almost right and all of your critiques are valid. I was attempting to use the lower left petal to counterballance the upper right bright area but apparently with little success.

But by darkening down the upper right wouldn't I lose some of the 'pop'?

I think most of the 'pop' is right in the center of the image.

Depends how you do it, Brian. I would use a mask so only the top right corner was affected. Or if you don't have layers and masks, possibly use an Adjustment Brush?

Hence my concern about darkening the petals with an overall variation.

I do have layer and mask capability but so far have not progressed to using them. Obviously it is time.

I wouldn't be without layers and masks, Brian.

After reading the information which is available in the CinC Tutorials there is a massive amount of extra advice here.

It is working with a slightly older version of Photoshop but the methods are basically the same with most other software as well.

Just asking because of my own ignorance, would it be wrong to try and burn the brightest areas of annoyance selectively?

Brian I love the greens in this image
