Anemone Blanda
Continuing my project to photograph flowers from the garden this year, I have been waiting for the daffodils (and am still waiting) but today I spotted the humble Anemone Blanda had come into flower. I immediately thought red background.....so went with that thought.
The only light is sunlight streaming in from the window
Here she is...

Thoughts, C&C all welcome as I develop this project

Re: Anemone Blanda
A lovely shot. Excellent detail where it counts. The BG color is a matter of taste. This choice is a bit unnatural yet not clearly "studio".

Re: Anemone Blanda
Not so humble a flower when it's presented like that - looks really fine.

Re: Anemone Blanda
I think that is beautiful, Kaye. You have the sunlight falling on the centre of interest, there is sufficient dof to show the detail in the petal on the left and it is all nicely complemented with the red background.

Thank you all for your encouraging comments.
Isabel I haven't tried photo stacking yet but you're right this would work well so I shall give it a go soon

Re: Anemone Blanda
Hi Kaye!
I really like this one! I like the red BG, yellow what-ever-it-is (I’m obviously not a flower guy!), and the purple petals. The colors rock!
I agree that this one would be a good candidate for focus stacking. As I gaze at it, my feeble old eyes want to bring the fore-petals into focus. The petals behind the yellow what-ever-it-is don’t seem to matter as much.
But I’m going to hazard a prediction on what stacking this one would do and offer a theory on how I might go about handling it. I could be totally wrong and without trying it I would never know, but its fun to think about anyway!
If you were to focus stack, you might have some issues with the red BG. There would begin to be parts of it that were in focus and some way out depending on where you started and stopped your stack. It might look great and it might be that the BG looks better more OoF. As the shot stands now I really like the OoF BG.
So, as long as I am compositing I would definitely take a base shot (such as this one) with the red BG/surface OoF. That way I would be able to blend back in some OoF BG and mask off the flower to keep it sharp if I thought I might want to. After I got my stack to my liking I might just try this just to see how it would play just for giggles.
Anyway, just a Theory!
Great shot Kaye!
