If they think all there is to taking a good photo is the camera, just take the damn photo and say it was taken with a good camera. What's the problem, they can't tell if it is good or not, because they are thick right. Just get them in exposure, I would use P mode or even better auto mode, then tell them it is good because they will love it. Nice job you got, I can do that.

I haven't read all the posts for this topic and I can't offer any technical advice for this. But, for me this is a fairly straightforward issue. If this project was going to an outside photographer then a 'brief' would have been put together. Then suitable photographers would have been sort with experience and asked to supply quotes and show examples of their work. On that basis a photographer would have been chosen.

Just because this is in house seems to me that the same sort of 'brief' should be there. I am sure that your current employers have a lot of trust in you as they have asked you to do the job. But, for the sake of harmonius relations with your employers you need to be honest with yourself and them. Are you confident that your equipment/skill/expertise level is sufficient to do the job?

Maybe, there is a halfway house were as previously mentioned you make sure that if you do take the challenge on you have a plan B. Otherwise, no matter how good your current relations with your company are they will have doubts about asking you again if you don't deliver this time.

As far as I can see the only way to find out if you can do the job is go and take pictures of the buses. You can then find out what the problems are for the 'brief' that is expected of you. I do think it is important that you and your employers are aware of how your are taking the project on. Both you and them need to be clear on that.

In addition to the advice already given to have the lights on, make sure the destination signs have appropriate text ("Out of Service" would be inappropriate) and make sure they wash the bus first. Don't forget the interior shots - make sure the windows have been cleaned.
