NYC St Patrick's Day night
The Empire State Building will light different color for different holidays. Monday was St Patrick's Day. The Empire State Building light was green. And it was also a full moon night. When I got to my shooting spot。 it was very late. The sky was dark and the moon was high. I share two shoot here. Hope you will enjoy them.
C&C welcome.

Beautiful Hui. I particularly like the first one because of the light reflecting off the clouds and the moonlight lying on the water. I feel the moon and clouds give depth the sky in that shot.

Hui, excellent shots!
I love the sky in the first image, but overall I really like the second image the best.

Greg,
Thanks for your comment. That day, the cloud moved fast. I did take a few composition of different cloud pattern. This is the most interesting one.

Great shots Hui. The clouds and moon really make the first shot.

Re: NYC St Patrick's Day night
Hui,
The first shot is a little “blurry”.
The second shot needs a little “Southern” sharpening and it will be stunning. ![Smile](https://cdn.cambridgeincolour.com/forums/images/smilies2/smile.png)
When shooting buildings, try not to cut any building in half. If you need to cut a building cut it in such a manner that it does not look “half” cut.

Hi Hui. Nice images. It is very rewarding to come home with a photo of the NYC skyline at night. One comment for your consideration is to adjust the white balance for a bit more blue as many of the lights are very yellow.

Re: NYC St Patrick's Day night
For me, Hui, the first image isn't working because of the blurred effect from those moving clouds, as Andre mentioned. Possibly another crop option to lose the moon? This would be a pity but I would sooner ditch the moon than have it causing a distraction over what is otherwise an excellent photo.
And, I'm afraid, with the second shot the moon is too 'distant' to be relevant for me. So once again I would try a different ratio tighter crop to concentrate on the good buildings and reflections.

Beautifully composed and executed, Hui.
I definitely prefer the first shot; somehow the moonlight backlighting the clouds adds additional interest that adds something special to the shot. The colours of the city and the reflections on the water work well and I like your choice of colour balances, with the buildings showing a warm tone, contrasting the cool colours of the night sky.
I find that the second shot lacks the balance of the first shot. Yes, the moon is there, but it is so high in the sky that it doesn't add as much as it did in the first image. A touch too much blank sky for my test.
Regardless; both shots work.

Re: NYC St Patrick's Day night
Hi Hui,I like both of them.At first sight I thought cropping the moon and the blank sky would be good for #2,but when clicked on #2 the photo got smaller and I was able to see the whole image .It looks perfect as it is,such a nice composition.I would suggest that the other members should click on the photo to see the whole image in a smaller size, they might change their mind

Thanks for all your comments. I took many shots that day. The cloud was flying fast and formed different pattern in the pictures. These two are my final choice.
