    Gold Coast

Just got back from a trip to the Gold coast to visit my eldest daughter and will post a few images as I finished the edits.
Cindy and I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon coffee at a place called Elephant rock with Mal, (goldcoastgolfer) his wife Kerry and Jazzy.
Had a great time and it was really neat meeting another CiC member
Mal told me of a vantage point where you can see back along the beach towards the Gold Coast and how nice it looks at the right time of day.
I took this at about 4 PM, it was blowing a gale and the sky was so hazy but it was the only opportunity I was going to get to grab a photo.
This is the result after some cropping and editing. I used tilt shift in CS6 to throw the background further out of focus and was pleased with the result.
I tried to use the main wave in the image as a line leading the viewers eye's through the image and towards the city scape.
    C & C welcome as always.
    Cheers, Greg

I like it Greg, a different perspective from what we normally expect to see and it works well. Perhaps it's because I like the sea

    Greg,

To be honest, I think if you could shift focus to the rocks in the middle ground it would have been a fantastic shot. The eye is always led to whatever is in focus. In this image my eye keeps coming back to the breaking wave in the right front of the image.

Must say, it is a pretty “cool” image.

Thanks Andre, I did a version with the rocks as the focal point but because the day was fairly hazy they weren't real sharp in the image anyway so what I was left with was an image that was all out of focus.
A bit like a lot of my images

Hi Greg. Sorry, but this image does not work for me. I agree with Andre. The sharpest part of the image is at the bottom and when I try to look out further into the background, everything is out of focus. There is no main object sharply in focus to capture and hold the viewer's eye.

I love the comp, Greg...throwing the background out of focus got you what you want and it looks good. I like it too.

Ken, I knew the image would not be to everyone's liking, as you say, no main focal point, it was always intended to be a more abstract image. Thank you for taking the time to comment..

Izzie, glad you like it. The image will always remind me of a good day

I see the appeal of color and pattern here, and the soft horizon works for me, but I agree with Andre' that the eye is looking for those mid-ground rocks to have more sharpness. The tilt-shift seems cool (don't have PS) and I wonder if it can be manipulated to get those rocks in focus and leave the skyline out?

Think of a couple fading away into distance here

A re-worked version with the focus brought more toward the rocks as suggested

Neat shot, Greg, this edit with the middle ground in focus is much better, but I wonder if the foreground needs so much blurring?

Pleased you're pleased Ken. Still think I can do better, as the other Greg points out the foreground is blurry. Think I need to look at how I'm going about the post processing with this image.

Agree - like this better - there is still some hazy softness as distance increases, which is nice.
