    WB in a night shot

How can I adjust WB in a raw file of a night shot in ACR.In general a night shot is a dark photo, there might be some lights but there is no sunshine. There might also be some reflections because of the moon.So what is the proper way of adjusting white balance for such images.

Try to use WB for the dominant source, I'll experiment with tungsten or fluorescent but usually end up using cloudy. Sometimes a night scene will have mixed lighting source, also try auto WB to see what the camera detects.

In ACR, Binnur, I always adjust the WB manually.

If I am uncertain which way to go I may try a few of the auto adjustments to give me an idea but always end up dragging the sliders around until I am happy with the result.

And then after fiddling about with the exposure and recovery settings I often return to the WB for a final tweak.

With difficult subjects I find there is no alternative to a good 'colour eye' and previous experience!

Spot balancing on any shade of grey should do as long as it should be a pure grey right up to near black. If not pure some further adjustment might be needed.

As others have said, night shots tend to be mixed light shots, so one must make a call on your white balance, based on personal preferences and tastes.

In low light situations, human vision is largely black and white, so most of the colours that you pick up are not going to be the way we see, regardless.

IMHO, excepting for skin tones, obtaining "correct" WB is a highly overrated concern. Close your eyes and remember and go from there.

I agree with Chauncey. With the exception of skin tones (which I would rather have as leaning toward the warm or reddish side, rather than blue and green), the color balance is simply the choice of the photographer.

This is especially true in shooting night cityscapes.
