I look at your newer images and I think...wow, is he getting better!
Like the clarity and DOF in this one, would like to see the extraneous leaves (upper right and lower left) go away. Additionally, you have some hot spots on the lower flower that need attention.
I habitually like to clip my RGB numbers to about 5-10 and 245-250.

my pp skills are not up to removing entire sets of leaves. But I can work on the hot spots. And just for the record it is a single flower. it is the only 'double' hibiscus that I have seen and it is pretty.

Without bragging I have been getting a lot of people saying that there is a big improvement of late in my shots. I believe that this is in large measure because of (and here I go out on a limb with names being one of my weaknesses) Collin's suggestions about how to use the 'unsharpen mask' and that I should find a way to adjust the 'midtones'. That and I lost the picture frame border.

I'd have to give this ...

10 out of 10 for spelling, punctuation, and grammar and 10 out of 10 for the image.

The image especially has a lot of things going for it compositionally - not sure if all are obvious as to "what makes it work", so I'll spell out a few

    - the "trunk"? (if that's what it is) all the way down the left hand side provides a good visual anchor

    - the greenery from top left and bottom left being on the diagonal, lead the eye towards the centre of the frame where the subject of interest is

    - it has a natural vignette (old trick - if you can't eliminate background distractions then dropping them down a few levels makes them FAR less obvious. As has been done here)

    - the two colours are natural opposites, again, providing excellent colour contrast

Well done Brian - best one I've seen from you yet. That shot wouldn't look out of place printed on a medium canvas and hung in many an office.

PS: Not sure who "Collin" is ...

Hi Colin, better make it 9.9 out of 10 for spelling? The 'trunk' is in reality a bamboo pole that was part of a fence. Let me offer my thanks for your suggestions and help with the post processing techniques. I never would have believed how much an improvement can be had by a small tweak in the midtones. Thanks again.

    Simply lovely...

I especially like the sense that I could reach out and touch the flower, ie; it feels that real... the wonderful DOF, beautiful soft colours and the petals with lovely detail.

If I wasn't so egotistic I would be blushing.
