Interesting. The result has me somewhat confused; yes, the technique has resulted in an image with much less shadow noise -- but IMO it's none-the-less still an awful looking result (far too flat). I would have thought that if they're going to go to all the trouble of shooting the images for the demo then they'd at least come up with a "wow" result instead of one that suggests "if this is the result we get then why bother trying".
Yes, I agree. I suppose they could have chosen something with more of a wow factor. Its probably got more to do with the technique than anything else. The outbackphoto blog - as I understand it - is more about the technical side of things.
