    Teachers!!

    Hello everyone,
I have tried to post a couple of images this week to get feedback from you lovely people & have failed miserably!
Every time I've intended to give some time to photography I've been scuppered with extra / someone else's work from school.
I am ex military, as I know some of you are, but as a relatively senior officer who commanded his own ship, small one I admit, and sadly, but honourably, took part in several conflicts, I still am amazed at the sheer ineptness of so called qualified teachers who cannot spell, write reports or simply just do it.......
I am really p****d off now, however, thank you for being there.
    Andy
P.s. I am hoping to post some images tomorrow!

    Andy...

Although one of my degrees is in education, I do realize that every educator cannot necessarily educate!

You are so right Richard. I said something similar to my principal & she venomously disagreed with me! 'He has a degree, of course he can teach' etc, etc....

Those who can, do; those who can't, teach. Does that sound familiar?

Don't worry...people who cannot spell are all around you. Unfortunately, it is unforgiveable if that person happens to be a "teacher".

I'm always saying that. I suddenly occurred to me one day that I also do a lot of teaching!

The majority of teachers want to do their very best for their pupils, so perhaps it would be fair to them to illustrate why their efforts might be in vain -

    Those who can, do.
    Those who can't, teach.
Those who can't teach, teach teachers (i.e. they leave the classroom to become education college tutors, or advisors, or consultants).
Those who can't teach teachers become inspectors (i.e. they take courses given by the previous group on "best practice", so they learn how to criticise teachers for doing it wrong).
Finally, someone who can't do any of the above is eminently qualified to be appointed as a government minister for education (i.e. one who decides national education policy on a whim).

    Tongue in cheek?

Rings pretty true around these parts, but enough about our Minister for Education

When I was entering my Master's Program at San Diego State University, I was required to take the Graduate Record Examination. In those days, they provided the test taker with a breakdown of how the persons with degrees in different fields scored in the various portions of the exam.

If memory serves my correctly, the various portions included: math, science, English, social sciences and the humanities. There may have been one or two more; I don't really remember. What I do remember is that the test takers with their degrees in education scored at the bottom of every test category. People with degrees in art scored better in math and science than people with degrees in education, people with degrees in science and math scored better in English and the humanities than those with education degrees.

In fact, it was quite embarrassing to me, because one of my undergraduate degrees was in education. BTW: I scored pretty high in all facets of the test except in the math section in which I was only average.

It was quite well known in San Diego State University that if a person was having academic problems in programs like science, business or math; that counselors would steer these folks into the Department of Education.

I am not saying that all people with degrees in education are lacking academic competence; just that some of those folks must be pretty darn bad...

    Re: Teachers!!

    We used to say...

    Those who can; do...
    Those who can't; teach..
And, those who can neither do nor teach become administrators...

One of my classes in educational theory included:

A top teacher is a person who gets his/her reports in on time and keeps his/her students out of the principal's office. And... if that teacher imparts some knowledge to the students, that is gravy!
