Wine Glass bathed in soft pink light

The same friends that donated the broken wine glass also donated this one. I am especially attracted to the decoration in the stem, so I made that the primary subject.

This is very nice as usual. Your lighting management continues to amaze me. There appears to be a nice pink tinge to the background as well or is that just a sort of auto-suggestion.

One thing though - I am surprised you left in the two vertical pink streaks in the top centre.

Another beauty! I love this image, and for some reason I find the area of where the base of the glass meets the reflection, is especially beautiful and fascinating.

    Thank you, everyone!

Tony: The two streaks of light that you mentioned helped add a sense of a three-dimensional look for me. I don't think the image would be demonstrably better or worse with or without them, just different.

If you're referring to the pink tinge in the background close to the bright tones, I think that's something having to do with the technology of a computer monitor, which displays emitted light as opposed to reflected light. I work very hard at ensuring that the background is otherwise black. I haven't printed any of the images made in this style but I would be disappointed if any of them displayed that halo of sorts as happens when displaying them on a computer monitor or television.

Chauncey: The light source in this image is a large lamp with five compact fluorescent bulbs rated at the equivalent of about 100 watts each if they were incandescent. I like the flexibility of being able to use any or all of them. In this case I used all of them. I could have used only the one in the center but the shutter speed would have been longer.

There are some very pleasing tones in that decorative section, Mike. Have you considered taking a shot of just that part. ie filling the frame with only that?

Mike, quite interesting (and fantastically shot). I looked at it in lightbox and went full enlargement. What I noticed in the full enlargement is that, if you were to crop it from the top of the image to an equal amount below the stem decoration, it is an entirely different but equally amazing image.

Outstanding as is, Mike. I wondered what it would look like if I could not see the base reflected in the table's surface. Just a thought, not a criticism.

Greg: I don't have a macro lens, so I wouldn't be able to make a really good image of just the decorative part of the stem. The company that I would normally rent a macro lens from on the weekend and only pay for one day's rental just went out of business last week.

Jack: Thank you! You're right that there are a number of crops that would work well perhaps for very different reasons. This crop is square by design.

Ken: Thanks! I have plans to use a non-reflective tabletop for a different image, though it's likely that neither the tabletop nor the background will be black.

Mike, nice image. Wonder what it would look like with a little wine it or would that detract from your primary subject - the design.

Thanks, Bruce. I think the wine would be a detraction. However, I might be proved wrong if I tried it.
