    Broken Fence Part 2

That Fence at more distance. One with a more dramatic sunshine through the trees, but the other I like more because of the blue part of the sky, makes it slightly colourful and I think the tones of blue and yellow harmonise quite well. Also the first one is too dominated by the foggy space in the middle, the rest appears more like a frame.
    C&C regarded, thanks

I like them both. Great shots! I do find that the sun in first one pulls the eye to the corner, which takes away from the fence. But that doesn't ruin the photo.

I think the first shot it's a little bit flat, the yellow fog is too homogeneous but for the lower part at ground level, that make the picture feel "empty" as the eye neutralize the wide homogeneus colour part and read it as void.

On the contrary, in my opinion, the second shot have a nice dynamic tension. The sunlights angle and the "blue shard" of sky give to the fog more depth; the drain under the fence act as leading line to the trees and the sunrise, and give the illusion that the fog is moving forward to the viewer, also, the opposite oblique rays of sunshine throught trees and branchs help giving a sense of "dynamism" to the picture. So, in the end, the contrast between the scape than look so "quiet" and "tranquil" and it's graphical dynamic tension make it a shot with a nice and strong personality.

    Briggite,
#2 is excellent, very ethereal. Interestingly, there is this angle, formed by the edge of the ditch(?) below and by the dark branch above, which leads the eye right to the sunburst.

Brigitte (ah now! I got the spelling of your name correct!!! yeyyy..) I like part one better. The mysterious path leading to the other end of the fence. With this lot, I like #1 shot too, but I still prefer the part 1 of the two installments. It has more story to it, more mystery.

My vote goes to #2, an image that has been crafted very well in all respects.

    Hi Brigitte.

I think you analyzed the situation quite well. Here is another thought for your consideration. In the second image, my eye keeps bouncing back and forth between the ditch and the sun, and never really stays put for long. I wonder what you would think about dividing the image in half and making the left side a separate image and the right side a separate image. You may not like it. Just something to experiment with.

    Hi Ken,

I followed your suggestion, and actually both parts work as a single picture. Not sure if it's the awareness of the original one or my own idea of what makes an image more interesting, but I still like that second above the most. I don't know if that's an established rule - having just one eyecatcher, for me maybe exactly the interaction in this case between the ditch and the sun makes it attractive.
    Thanks though for your comment,regards

Of the two presented here, I prefer the first because that wall of fog suggests mystery beyond the fence.

In the second one there is not enough detail in the fence to hold my interest. My attention is taken by the sun shining through the branches on the right hand side. I would crop the left hand side, removing the fence entirely so that the main focus of attention -- the silhouetted branches -- became the subject of the photo.

Thanks Greg, at the second one the fence wasn't supposed to be the subject

Both good images Brigitte each with it's own appeal. My preference is for No 2 due to greater contrast and action from the sun giving it a bit of punch on the right complimented by the less distinct interest on the left.
