Oh yes, if you read the question, it usually gives a clue,
plus they are checkboxes normally, not (exclusive select) radio buttons
and sometimes we even say "(tick all that apply)"

The idea is too see the most popular, which we still can, given that more people vote in these because of the ease of doing so, compared to a PM in the monthlies.

More votes equals more positive feedback for contributors, which is designed to encourage them

Also means I now know that ice crystals on dead leaves and grass are just too boring (for most people) compared to the more interesting shots btw my thanks to the two people that did vote for me in #76

    Cheers,

Yes, it is interesting to assess what sort of images appeal to us on here. There are definitely preferences and patterns that one can discern. However, we must not, of course, start shooting just to appeal to the popular market!!

Now where did I put that beach/shoreline/river/bird/etc/etc? Or maybe it's that the people who take these images are better at it than me? Nah!!

I think what appeals is that something, and it may be a very ordinary something, is shot in an unusual way that leads you to reconsider it and see it in a different way. That's what works for me at least.

    Cheers,
Crickey, must READ the voting clues myself ... I place one vote for what I think is the best shot etc, then hit 'looksee' to see if I am 'picking' a winner and then you can't vote anymore 'cause you have voted. Looking at the number of votes cast in most poles, I think that most of us have been doing the same.

Hey, Dave, did you produce your shot (per above) via the fridge ... saw the idea in a photo mag just recently. And it wasn't boring

In this mini-competition series, I regularly vote for 5/6/7 of the images. I've found that easy to do, as the overall standard since somewhere about #25/30 has really taken off. There are many images in these mini-comps that, if we think of the monthly challenge as the 'senior' competition, should be in there.

So rather than pick 'a winner' in these mini comps, I am casting votes for those images that I think deserve to be posted in such a forum. And that regularly includes more than one per mini-comp.

Thanks for tips on how to vote ... smart thinking for someone living 'north'. I wonder if they are as smart this side of the North Sea I'll try

It's the clean living, healthy lifestyle and plenty of fresh air that does it!

    Absolutely Donald,

It is rare that I vote for less than 4 - except when I forget completely (as in the previous one actually), or more than 7.

    Cheers,

At what point do you start to vote against your own pic, if you vote for 9 then everybody else is more likely to win.

Maybe that's why my subconcious 'made' me forget the previous one, at least I didn't increase other's odds against my icy leaves

This is getting into complex mathematics ... now 1+4-6+7/0 = ?
Must work on this and then I can increase my odds of WINNING He he.
