I agree. I didn't find the original (or this one) in any way confusing. I think the brain subconsciously registered the fact that the wine was behind the rim and then in front of it and that gave us the information to tell us about the composition.

The second one doesn't seem to make any difference to me, Mike.

I'm waiting to see how it works out with a nice red in a future shot. I guess you'll have to wait for it to warm up a bit to ensure your work can be done at the proper temperature for a red.

Yeah, that's how it always starts! Next thing you know Makeshift Studios, Inc. will be covered in visqueen, tarps, and Big Red Tubs as you are chucking liquid all over the studio!

Great image. Refreshing & Classy is what come to mind. Your glass images are simple but elegant and effective. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said "Personality is everything in Art and Poetry" and from all the posts that I have seen on CIC eversince I joined, yours are one those which are always helpful and humble and never once being a "Smart Alec". Perhaps that is your secret to great photography. Welldone!

I had an experience last night looking at the image that made it immediately obvious to me which rim of the glass is the front rim. The situation was that I was looking at it for the first time on my television. It's not important that the television is so much larger than my computer monitor; it's that the television happens to be positioned above viewers when they are sitting. This image is shot from the perspective of looking up toward the top of the glass and that point of view was enhanced by the television being above the viewer.

So, all of you get out of your chair in front of your computer monitor and sit on the floor to ensure that your monitor is above you. You'll then immediately know which rim is the front rim.
