The "trees" experiment

Hello everyone, lately I have started to "experiment" shooting trees, enspecially on mountside, I would like to make a "photoproject" out of them, a gallery of some pictures to add to my portfolio, also for kinda show my "style" of photography. I would like your opinion about that; would the subject be sufficiently interesting? are the pictures too "abstract"? Is a bad idea? What shot choose? Anykind of opinions, adivices and suggestions are welcomed. Since there are various pictures I will post them in different messages trying to give the thread a more orderly look.

I started to shoot picture of trees on the mountside as a study for the various light-spectrum tones that change through the same day and of course the seasons. These pictures for example are made with no filter or white balance alterations as a study of the "cold blue spectrum light" than can be observed on winter early morning just some minutes before sunrise.

Than I started to notice the "pattern" than trees formed, those patterns haven't a specific "rhytm" or a geometric cadence of course since they are natural, so I tried to point exactly on that, on their "imperfect geometry" trying to give a sence of "abstract" and "illusion"

From the "abstract" shots, inspired by Frans Lanting shot in Namibia and of course Monet I started to try to make the pictures look even more like expressionist painting playing with focus, deep of field and prespective... some try get better than others

Thanks, but what you think of it as a photo-project? Imagine to visit an online portfolio of a photographer and see a gallery dedicated to this kind of pictures... would you find it boring? Odd? "Meh"?

I wouldn't it find boring Pellegrino because I'm fond of fine arts and I really enjoy watching paintings...not only abstracts but also classics.So,your work is a kind of fine art for me I think the answer to your question just depends on the person who views your photos.

These are a very interesting collection and I like them all except the first two - I think the blue hue is too strong there

I instead love that pictures XD I "chased" that blue hue for days, lying in wait for hours before sunrise in the cold winter.

I am sorry...it really looks nice but not my type...Seeing that you made all that effort, I admire you for your patience in chasing that scene. You got what you want to get in the process and that is the most important, not my nor any other person's opinion.

I liked it, I respect it and I asked for it because I want to know them.
I was just pointing out that is funny how my two favourite shot and the most "hard" to get are also the two then you like the less XD <<< see? smiley face, means that I think to have said something hilarious '-' ... and that's because I'm trying to become a photographer and not a stand-up comedian.

My favourites are #4 and #9... Beautiful! I especially love the soft varied colours and light in #9.

Stunning series. 4,9 and 11 are my personal favorites, and 4 is just breath-taking.

I think #9 is amazing.
#12 is kind of blowing my mind. It's hypnotic. There are patterns within patterns. The vertical tree trunks, interwoven branches, and the dark, or shadowed areas that flow throughout the image. This is the image I would hang on my wall.
[And because it is how the human brain is wired, I see a number of shapes, faces and creatures within #12.]

#12 is kind of blowing my mind. It's hypnotic. There are patterns within patterns. The vertical tree trunks, interwoven branches, and the dark, or shadowed areas that flow throughout the image. This is the image I would hang on my wall.
[And because it is how the human brain is wired, I see a number of shapes, faces and creatures within #12.]

Everybody here (family, friends etc.) thinks than #12 is "creepy as hell", enspecially the colour version that have been described as "bloody" '-'

To me #12 is just "illusory, "deceptive"... therefore your comment practically confirm that I succeed at my intent =)

Ok Tarantino... trying to recap my thoughts honestly:
I am between being fascinated and bored. I can see the reference to impressionism, and that's compelling. I agree with Kaye that the first both are "too blue" - to me they are least appealing. I also can't find too much on 5, 6 and 7. At the other side the pattern aspect of 3, 11 and 12 is really kinda hypnotic, I can look at them for a long while and have different imaginations
Nr 4 is my favourite, this I like a lot. Maybe I just can't do much with abstracts.
Altogether (to me) I would not have had the idea to take pictures of those sequences, but at the same time it's quite a change to many over-strained subjects.

9,7,5,6,10, 8 --> In order of my preference.
And contrary to others, I also like the blues, maybe just toned down a bit.
Actually, I like all of them, even the creepy B/W and the bloody Red.
