Is that a macro rail i see on top of your tri-pod?

And nearly forgot, cheers for the set-up pics.

Hi David, that sure is a macro rail and I always use it when I have all the tubes on as I can then support the weight of the lens, pencil, to stop the play and make it all more rigid. I then set the lens at minimum focus (max magnification) and use the rail adjustment for focus control as it's steadier.

Those are two of my better pictures achieved with a P&S

    Hi David

I would certainly say they are worth having if only for the ease of focusing by it at high magnifications rather than the lens. It's not something I use all the time but indispensable when I need it.

The model I purchased was this one http://www.myphotoaccessory.com/stor...roducts_id/118 and was very cheap from ebay, it has a 100mm travel but with the weight of my camera/lens/tubes/flashes it's only useable for around 40/50mm of smooth travel. Best smoothness is achieved when using them around the range of the centre of gravity of the rig.

I have a jumping spider containerised and awaiting having it's portrait taken tonight, watch this space

Cheers Grahame,I had looked at that model before, but like yourself my rig weighs a tonne and thought it would be to heavy!

If it works for you, then I might give one a go,as it won't break the bank to do so!

Good luck with the Jumper,I have a couple to post later from the other day Looking forward to your images
