Having fun at Shorncliffe Pier

Yesterday evening I went on an outing with a local camera group to the much photographed Shorncliffe Pier. These are a few of my results.

1. It's all in the timing. SS 1/500, f/10, 24-105 lens at 105mm

2. Exposure time 15s, f/10, 24mm

3. 27.7s, f/10, 35mm

4. 7.8s, f/10, 45mm

5. And just to provide some context, this is where it was, half an hour earlier. There are much better images of the pier than this one.

To get the flames, the man took a mouthful of some horrible flammable stuff, I would guess something like kerosene, and blew it onto a flaming stick in front of him. You can see the stick there. There was quite a breeze which nicely spread the flame in front of him. I was surprised to see his face when I got the image on the computer and I must confess to doing some dodging to show it up more. I asked his girlfriend, who was nervously looking on and hoping that he would still have eyebrows, whether she was going to give him a kiss afterward. She thought he would need a lot of mouthwash and toothpaste first.

Very nice shots Tony.May I ask how you got 1/500 shutter speed at night for #1,because of the powerful flames?

Thanks, Binnur. Yes, it was just the light from the flames. I forgot to say that all of these light shots were at ISO100.
