Jeff, your link seems to be directed more the neophyte then towards the august group assembled herein.
I don't know; there are a lot of "neophytes" that join CiC to learn about photography. I think he makes some good points, but 3 and 4 are really the same thing; he is telling people to watch the level of adjustments so as not to blow out highlights, he's just covering two of the many ways that this can be done.
Nice to read the article about "The Most Common Photo Editing Mistakes and How to Avoid Them".
I have to admit, I have mistakingly done these things in editing. I like to think I am better now, but it never hurts to have a refresher like this article.

I tend to agree with the article in that many people make those mistakes early on. Like with many things in life, the mistakes have to be recognized before they can be corrected. People wouldn't produce the results if they didn't think they looked OK. That is where forums like this provide a good resource by simply exposing people to other people's work and hearing others' opinions/suggestions.
