Hi Erick, nice images .I think you should reduce highlights a bit.
Erick, i agree with Binnur, the highlights need reduced a tad,and #1 is a member of the hoverfly too!
David
Yes #1 looks like a Eupeodes species. And if in the UK, I would suspect Eupeodes corollae; but you may get some slightly different species there. I'm not sure about their distribution.
And #2 seems rather similar to our Episyrphus balteatus.
Two fairly common species which I have yet to see this year.
Very colorful.
thanks for the info Goeff, not quite familiar with them bugs, though i love shooting them since i got my macro lens, its so addicting..Binnur and David, what's with the highlight? seems it cropping up too often with my post. do pardon and be patient with a newbie, hope you guys could enlighten my poor judgement. how do i address this issue? is there something wrong with my lcd screen or my eyesight? though i have to admit, i do have eyeglasses which i rarely use. i'm using Acdsee pro, not familiar with Photoshop nor lightroom.thanks John, you lifted up my sagging spirit
Hi Erick,
The highlights referred to are the areas of 'white' that have been caused by the harsh direct sunlight (I see no flash was used for these) causing a loss of detail of the subjects in these areas. At times they can be recovered in PP but if too great they are what is called 'blown' and all data in that area is lost.
To overcome this problem it is best to take these shots in shaded areas or somehow provide temporary shade, but, this then reduces the light level requiring you to possibly reduce shutter speed, increase ISO or open aperture giving less DoF.
You can use your LCD screen to determine if these are present by using the histogram or blinkies to confirm, assuming these are available on the D90. It is a problem macro shooters continually fight and is as significant as getting things focussed well.
On the below image I have reduced them somewhat in PP but there are limits.
Grahame
Grahame, thank you for the explanation, but i have to reread it again to fully understand it, my apologies, a bit slow picking it up..yes d90 have that feature, but being a fool and proud that i am, never checked it..lesson learned..took the shot in a shade, shutter speed 80, aperture 10, iso 400..attaching the as shot image..alas, the click here to upload photo from your computer ain't working..will try again tonight..again, thank you very much
I love the rework, Erick...must be my eyes or I am just too tired today but #1 to be seems a bit blurry at the back. #2 and #3 are beautiful as usual, much more better than the first installment...
Erick, can I remind you to please number your shots in future uploads...it makes it more easier to identify which is which to refer to...thanks...
