Hi Sylvain...welcome to CiC...I hope you enjoy your time while you are with us...hopefully we will get to know you more through your photos too. And learn from you too...
Thank you Isabel.
For sure I've a lot of things to learn from all of you.
Hi Sylvain,and welcome to C I C,great image
David
Sylvain - Good to see you posting your first image into the forum. And a very impressive picture it is as well.
I think it is very well composed and captures the character of the man very well. I would suggest that there are two points to consider about the image. These comments are not about the picture being 'right' or 'wrong', but about how it is best presented. And my views may well not be accepted by you or anyone else.
The first point to consider is the background and the second is the use of toning of the man's skin.
It is good that you used an aperture setting that allowed the background to be thrown out-of-focus. However there are parts of the background that are very bright. My suggestion would be to consider how the image would look if the background was less bright.
Secondly, I think you have toned or used selective colorization on the man's skin. My question about this is whether it causes an imbalance to the harmony of the image? The rest of the image is made up of shades of grey and then we have this area that is not. I am thinking that your objective was to make sure the viewer's attention was directed to wards the man's face and hand. The question I am asking myself is whether that could have been done more effectively by the use of a vignette, or selective sharpening of only the man's face and hand, or by adjusting brightness and darkness in the background and on the man's face and hand?
I hope these points raised by me help your learning.
Welcome Sylvain,
Nice image.
Welcome to CiC...
I thank you very much Donald, these points raised by yourself help my learning.
I full agree with you. The light is a nightmare in Vietnam and particularly in South Vietnam. 1st the sunrise and the sunset are very short. Dice 8am the sun is high and particularly dazzling. it gives area very exposed and very marked shadows. I took this picture at the end of the morning. I was sure that the face of the man will be well exposed and the background overexposed. If I underexposed to have more details in the background, I just have a shadow of a face. So please, I someone can give me some advise about
taking pictures by great contrasts of light. I take it.
Regarding the colors, you’re right and that’s why I posted this picture: to know if the colorization treatment works or not. I was not sure about the effect. I already used vignette and selective sharpening on the man's face and hand. You strengthen the idea that this picture should be treated in black and white only.
I thank you very much for you support.
Ps: Sorry for my poor English language, not my native language.
Thank you very much rpcrowe.
I rescued 3 dogs already
I will try to shoot (take a pic) them quickly.
Thank you John
Thank you David

Nice image sylvain...
Welcome to CiC Sylvain.
I find this a quite compelling image as is but do not have the knowledge to advise or suggest on it's treatment. Fortunately there are others here that do.
