    Danger ahead

Throughout my time on this earth I have a reputation of having some really dumb ideas, well...
    I've got another one.
You studio guys use a variety of paper/cloth backgrounds...what would be wrong with...downloading some of the free digital backgrounds, displaying them on your monitor...or a television for that matter, then simply parking your subject in front of that display. You could rapidly flip through those backgrounds to get the effect that you wanted.
FWIW...I took this droplet shot with one of my flowers, displayed on my monitor, for the background.

    Danger ahead

Granted, it's small scale but...would it stick to the wall?

Chauncey, I tried this a while ago, this thread Water Drop Refraction (My way) using a water drop as an example and it's an interesting area to explore.

One of the advantages is that you can produce your own images for backgrounds or find them on the web. In addition you can vary the distance between subject and screen to assist with DoF and can also adjust screen brightness to help with your required exposure.

One of the disadvantages is that it's not so easy to balance frontal lighting on the subject against background lighting to make the shot appear natural. In my opinion this image suffers from that.

Sounds like it could work fine for small stuff. Though as mentioned you're transmitting light from behind the subject rather than the same light that's on the subject reflecting off of a BG. But not such a crazy idea. So I guess you didn't live up to your reputation on this one

If I were going to use a BG of that nature I would probably use a print and light that instead of a lit screen. You would have more control over the lighting that way.

It's a common technique. An out of focus foliage print makes a good BG for macro stuff for example.

I rarely see "faces" in clouds and the like, but I see this image as two eyes sneaking a peek above the limb and a nose sticking out below it. Very ominous if not dangerous.

Chauncey, I tried this a while ago
My apologies Grahame, did not realize those were taken using that method...worked quite well.

Very pretty. The reflections in the drops are incredibly beautiful and detailed.

I wonder if you could set it up with a different orientation, so the image would look like a beautiful decorative mask that one would wear to a masked ball. ie; with the eyes facing forward.

Aah Christina...this was a photomerge of the droplets in different positions as they migrated across the thread until they dropped off. Ain't PS CC wonderful?

Oh... Well you are certainly full of surprises.

If PS CC is as wonderful as you say it is then it should be easy to flip just the eyes so they face forward.

Still very pretty... And wonderfully creative and innovative as always.

Grahame...could you expand on the lighting scenario that you mention?
The ones that I've done to date had no frontal lighting at all.
