    Wet Afternoon

After the deluge last week, we have had a week of afternoon storms this week. So I tried to make the best of the situation and took a few shots from the car. These were the best of them all.

I took my 50mm 1.8 because the light was quite low even though it was only mid-afternoon. The first shot pretty much represents what I had in mind before I went out. I had to focus through the glass (and rain) of the window and locked onto a water drop on the surface of the mirror, then turned AF off. I did that because the AF kept hunting for focus as it couldn't decide between the water drops on the glass of the window and the drops on the mirror. Then I waited for approaching cars. But of course, I forgot exactly which part of the mirror I had focused on, so the focus is a bit off.

After about a half hour the rain eased off, and I was able to wind the window down and get a better focus. However, this shot doesn't have quite the same feel. I could have set this one up by pouring some water over the mirror.

This last image is cropped at 100% from the one above. I like the two sets of headlights and the reflections in the water drops.

I think I will attempt this type of shot again, but try for something a bit more like the first one -- maybe a bit more dof and try to get some motion blur in the vehicle.

All constructive comments and criticism, suggestions, etc. welcome.

I like #1 and 2 better, Greg. If you go close enough, in #1 the reflection of the car's headlights resembles a lotus seed....#2 is good or the composition.

I like everything about the first one. Great mood!

At least at this small size (even the largest size displayed in the Lytebox), I don't see any issues with the focus. The water drops that seem the sharpest are those with the headlights in the background.

Izzie, Binnur, Mike, Christina and John, thanks for viewing and commenting.

Sitting in the car with the air-conditioning on to stop the windows fogging up, listening to the rain droning on the metal, for an hour while waiting for cars to come along... the photos are better than being there
