    Clifford - Jumping Spider Macro

I have absolutely no idea why I called this little fella Clifford but he adopted the name very shortly after jumping on my arm and hanging out with me.

These images were taken just after the millipede and No1 is what alerted me to the problem with the light escape around the perimeter of the moddifier/diffuser seen in the catchlights, it was taped over for shot No 2.

Clifford sadly has two of his front legs missing on his left side but this does not seem to affect either his ability to jump and run or his personality

    1/60s, f/22, ISO400, 105mm macro with 68mm tubes but forgot the magnifications I used.

    No 1

    No 2

    Enjoy....................

Grahame, I suppose that when you name your "creatures" they sort of fall into the category of "pets"...you can't kill nor dispose of any of them now... ... sorry I got carried away. It is just way too funny having to comment on your "pets"...

Anyway before I forgot I have to say they are all good. Through your photograph of them, I am beginning to like bugs and spiders and flies...well, as long as they stay there where you are. These creatures are your passions...lovely to see your interests in them developing into your expertise in photographing their existence.

Very awesome Graham, Clifford rocks !! i like #2, i also prefer the catch light in #2 's eyes as well. They seem alot smoother, also like his stance, like his just put his "front foot" on something and checking it out Very cool

Thanks David, I took at look at a Google image search on 'jumping spiders macro' and it's just amazing the number of different types but even more amazing is the detail and image quality of so many. They definitely have a pretty skilled fan club out there.

Hi Izzie, I have deliberately steered clear of calling them pets as it would mean moving them to the 'People and Pets' forum which then means I have something else to think about when posting

Seriously, not sure if the creatures are a passion of mine but it's certainly becoming an interesting and challenging use of macro and something that can be undertaken to pass the time during the dark evenings. But today's challenge is flowers

Thanks Binnur, he was stood on a stone for that one, great camouflage apart from the bowling ball eyes.

Hi Claudio, yes I'm happier with the catchlights now and my next experiment is going to see how far I can push the DoF with these and retain acceptable image quality at 1200px wide. I wonder if Clifford is still around?

Very nice. It is truly amazing how you manage to capture all of the eyes of these critters in such sharp focus.
