How did I overlook this thread?! As wonderful as the image is, the discussion is even better.

Regarding the image size, the information provided about the limitations when using a direct link explains that the Lytebox "will not show an image fullsize if it won't fit." I didn't see anything explaining the largest size that will fit but I might have overlooked it.

Great stuff Donald - and so many open fields for RC helicopter flying if I'm ever in that part of the world!

Is your home in there somewhere?

Not sure what you're meaning here Mike - I can select full size in the Lytebox and scroll using scroll bars just fine.

You might have missed the discussion in the thread explaining that the image size displayed in the Lytebox is smaller than the image size when downloaded, which in turn might explain the distortion also discussed in the thread.

I saw it, but I didn't notice it. Full size in the Lytebox I'm getting about 12000 pixels and 16000 by downloading it - so yes, I see what is meant now.

With many thanks to all those who contributed above on the subject of the distortion when the image was viewed at full size.

I've replaced the very large version of this with a reduced version that is 9999 pixels on the long edge. On my own monitor, that has solved the problem of distortion.

As Mike helpfully showed us in making the link to another thread in his post above, Dave Humphries had already provided the answer in his post giving guidance about how to post images. Why didn't I think of that. Dave ALWAYS has the answer when it comes to questions such as this. Thanks, Dave.

Anyway, if you look at this again, or for the first time, I hope you enjoy it.

Yes it is.

If you find the Glenfarg Hotel (the large stone building at the bottom on about the right hand thirds vertical) and look behind the extreme right chimney stack of the hotel (the chimney blocks some of the house). That's MacKenzie mansion!

Now I know exactly where to find good wine and conversation the next time I'm in Scotland. :D

Donald it looks like the problem with the aspect distortion is fixed.

Is living so close to the pub a good thing or a bad thing ?:D

Oh, it's an absolutely wonderful thing. Seriously, in a small, rural place like Glenfarg, the pub very much becomes the social centre of the community. We've had a few problems with owners of the place, who thought that running a hotel/pub was easy. Fortunately, we now seem to have people who really do have a business head on them. They've been owners just since January, so still getting their things in place. We all pile in there to watch the rugby when it is on ... and see who is next to wallop Scotland!!

I know the Glenfarg Hotel well - drove past it just last night in fact! I'm still a bit confused as to which is your house though; to the left of the extreme right chimney it looks like there is a single 4-pane window that's "the same height and almost looks like it's joined to" the chimney (that I can't quite make out what it's part of) - but behind that I can clearly see a much bigger house with what looks like 3 chimneys and 4 upstairs buildings (I think 2 of the chimneys from the hotel partially obscure it). Which one is it?

Something I noticed even as a kid - no matter how small a community is, if it only has 2 businesses then one will be a general store and the other will be a pub.

Here we are.

It's a semi-detached cottage, built in 1895, the same year as the railway came through Glenfarg from Edinburgh to Perth. The hotel was built at the same time. People sometimes wonder why we've never moved up from a relatively small cottage to something larger. But I love it and will never want to move.

The building of the Forth Rail Bridge opened up this part of Scotland. Glenfarg became quite a popular tourist destination for folks form Edinburgh. We wonder at that nowadays, as Edinburgh is only 40 minutes by road. But back then, that would have been a bid deal - folks getting out of the dirty city to rural fresh air.

Because a number of shell-shocked 1st world war patients were treated at Craiglockart Hospital in Edinburgh, they were sent to Glenfarg for R & R. Amongst them, so far as I can find out, was Siegfried Sassoon, the very famous poet.

Yes it is. The whole thing is integral - pub, hotel, restaurant, meeting venue etc.
